Founding story

From a small classroom to a statewide movement

Prothom Foundation was established with a singular conviction: that geography should never determine destiny. Founded in the Hojai district of Assam, the organisation began as a modest effort to keep children in school and women in the workforce — two goals that, in rural India, are far harder than they sound.

Over the years, what started as a local initiative grew into a multi-programme trust touching thousands of lives across Assam. From running scholarship programmes and medical camps to launching a Section 8 microfinance wing, Prothom has stayed true to its founding belief: that lasting change is built from the ground up, one family at a time.

Today, Prothom Foundation operates across education, healthcare, livelihood, disaster relief, and environmental awareness — always guided by the communities it serves.

Mission & values

What we stand for

To empower underserved communities in Assam through education, healthcare, livelihood support, and disaster relief — building a future where every person can live with dignity and opportunity.
Our values

The principles that guide us

Education first

We believe education is the most powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty. Every programme we run is designed to keep learners in school and in life.

Community-led

Solutions that last are built with communities, not for them. We listen before we act, and we measure success by what communities say, not just what we count.

Women at the centre

Women's empowerment is not a programme — it is our operating principle. From microfinance to leadership training, women lead the change we seek.

Sustainable impact

We design for the long term. Every intervention is built to outlast our involvement, leaving behind skills, systems, and self-reliance.

Transparency

We hold ourselves accountable to our donors, our beneficiaries, and the public. Our financials and impact reports are published annually.

Urgency with care

Communities in crisis cannot wait. We move fast when it matters — but never at the cost of dignity or quality.

Leadership

The people behind the mission

Our leadership team brings together decades of experience in community development, finance, education, and public health.
