Six pillars. One mission.
For over two decades, Prothom Foundation has worked across six interconnected programme areas — each one addressing a root cause of inequality in Assam.

Modern Education
25+ institutions. Thousands of futures.
Education is the cornerstone of everything Prothom Foundation does. Since 2005, we have built and operated more than 25 educational institutions across Assam — from primary schools in remote villages to higher secondary colleges in district towns.
Our schools consistently outperform state averages in board examinations. In 2026, PROTHOM Rural School achieved a 100% pass rate, and a Prothom Foundation student topped the National Scholarship Exam — milestones that reflect years of investment in teachers, infrastructure, and student welfare.
Beyond academics, we run scholarship programmes for first-generation learners, digital literacy labs, and teacher training workshops to ensure quality reaches every classroom.

Relief & Rehabilitation
First responders when disaster strikes.
Assam is one of India's most flood-prone states. Every monsoon season, thousands of families lose their homes, crops, and livelihoods to rising waters. Prothom Foundation has been on the ground during every major flood event since our founding.
Our relief operations include emergency food and water distribution, temporary shelter support, medical camps in affected villages, and long-term rehabilitation assistance — helping families rebuild their homes and restart their livelihoods.
We coordinate with district administrations, local volunteers, and national NGO networks to ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable — the elderly, children, and women-headed households — first.

Women Empowerment
Independence, leadership, and dignity for every woman.
Women's empowerment is not a standalone programme at Prothom — it is woven into everything we do. From the microfinance wing that puts capital in women's hands to the vocational training centres that build their skills, we design every intervention with women at the centre.
Our dedicated women's empowerment programmes include Self Help Group (SHG) formation and capacity building, leadership training, legal awareness workshops, and campaigns against child marriage and domestic violence.
Over 50,000 women across Assam have participated in Prothom-led programmes — many of whom have gone on to become community leaders, entrepreneurs, and elected representatives in local governance.

Health Care
Bringing healthcare to those who cannot reach it.
In rural Assam, the nearest hospital can be hours away. Prothom Foundation bridges this gap through regular medical camps, mobile health units, and partnerships with public health institutions to deliver primary care directly to underserved communities.
Our health programmes cover general check-ups, maternal and child health, eye care, dental camps, and distribution of medicines and assistive devices to people with disabilities. We have provided over 75,000 medical aids to date.
We also run health awareness campaigns on nutrition, sanitation, and preventive care — working with ASHA workers and local health volunteers to build community-level health literacy.

Skill Development
Job-ready skills for a changing economy.
Unemployment and underemployment are among the biggest challenges facing Assam's youth. Prothom Foundation's skill development programmes equip young people — especially women and school dropouts — with market-relevant vocational skills.
Our training centres offer courses in tailoring and garment making, computer literacy, mobile repair, beauty and wellness, construction trades, and agri-entrepreneurship. Courses are short-term (3–6 months), practical, and linked to placement support.
Recognised by the Government of Assam and awarded by ASSOCHAM for Best NGO in Skill Development, our programmes have trained over 30,000 individuals — with a placement rate that consistently exceeds 70%.

Environmental Awareness
Protecting Assam's natural heritage for future generations.
Assam's biodiversity — its forests, wetlands, and the Brahmaputra river system — is under increasing pressure from deforestation, encroachment, and climate change. Prothom Foundation's environmental programme works to reverse this trend through community-led conservation.
Our social forestry programme has planted over 1,00,000 trees across Assam, working with schools, village councils, and youth groups to create green corridors and restore degraded land. We also run annual Van Mahotsav drives and river clean-up campaigns.
Environmental education is integrated into our school curriculum, ensuring the next generation grows up understanding their responsibility to the natural world they inherit.

What impact looks like in real life
I never thought I would run my own business. Prothom's training gave me the skill, the microfinance wing gave me the capital, and the SHG gave me the confidence. Today I employ four other women from my village.
